1) What is your good name?
My name is Praveen Tayal, and I am the Managing Director of Brij & Co.
2) Provide a brief introduction to your profile. What motivated you to enter your field, and what key principles drive your work?
When you’re born into a business family, your first lessons don’t come from textbooks—they come from the shop floor, from conversations with customers, from observing your father treat quality like a religion.
My entrepreneurial roots go back to my father, who began his journey in 1957 as a tea vendor and then opened small undergarments shop in Delhi. He had no fancy degrees or connections—just a deep sense of customer service and an uncompromising approach to quality. Those became our family values.
I grew up watching him take care of his employees, whom he fondly called “Apne Log,” and go the extra mile for customers. That was my real MBA. Today, those same principles—integrity, commitment, care, and quality without shortcuts—are the backbone of how I lead Brij & Co.
3) Share some of your notable achievements and any industry recognition or awards you’ve received.
One of our proudest milestones was receiving a prestigious order from the Indian Air Force in 1992 for their Diamond Jubilee celebrations—a turning point that shaped our entry into customized garment manufacturing.
Since then, Brij & Co. has had the privilege to serve some of the most respected Indian and multinational brands across sectors – automotive, construction, infrastructure, FMCG, and retail.
While awards and recognition have come our way, I consider the loyalty and trust of our clients—some spanning over two decades—as our most valued achievements. It reaffirms that quality, delivered consistently, always stands the test of time.
4) Highlight a specific contribution or innovation you’ve made in your respective field. How has it impacted or transformed the industry?
Our core contribution lies in creating a dependable, scalable, and design-focused uniform ecosystem for some of India’s most respected brands—something especially challenging in an otherwise fragmented industry.
We developed robust systems to handle multi-location rollouts across India, introduced standardized sizing protocols, and invested in fabric R&D to deliver breathable, all-season workwear that balances durability with comfort.
One of our proud innovations is RECOCOOL—a sustainable workwear category crafted from recycled PET bottles. It’s our way of blending performance with purpose, and contributing meaningfully to environmental responsibility.
With the next generation, Archit & Apoorv joining the business, we also forayed into the D2C space through Brij Lifestyle—a brand curated for today’s professionals. It brings the same commitment to quality and functionality that institutions trust, now made accessible to individuals who value smart, timeless workwear for everyday hustle.
5) Discuss a significant challenge you’ve faced and the innovative solutions or strategies you implemented to overcome it.
One major challenge was managing complex deliveries and expectations of clients with widespread operations – especially during the pandemic.
We navigated this by strengthening our digital backend, ensuring proactive communication, and building processes to ensure timely deliveries despite logistics breakdowns.
Internally, we focused on upskilling our team and investing in processes that could scale without compromising our service promise. It was a test of our resilience, and I’m proud of how our people rose to the occasion.
6) What’s your vision for the future? How do you plan to continue making a difference or influencing positive change in your field?
Our future is shaped by a blend of legacy and reinvention. With my sons—Archit and Apoorv—bringing in fresh energy and insights from the world of fashion business, we are geared to expand both our institutional offerings and our consumer-facing brand, Brij Lifestyle.
We want to make Brij a name synonymous with trust, performance, and pride in Indian manufacturing—not just as a supplier, but as a value partner.
Whether it’s eco-conscious uniforms or tech-integrated apparel, the idea is simple: keep improving, stay rooted in values, and always care for the people who wear our garments.
7) Offer a piece of advice for individuals aspiring to excel in your field. What valuable lessons have you learned on your journey?
This field is not about glamour—it’s about grit, grounding, and giving your best, every single day.
One lesson I’ve learned is: There are no shortcuts in quality. Every stitch speaks. And your customer will notice.
Also, always treat your people well—employees, vendors, clients. Relationships are your biggest capital in business.
And most importantly, stay curious, stay humble. Even after decades in the business, I still consider myself a student.
