1) What is your good name?
I’m Balchand Khichar, the Founder & Director of XFord Eyewear.
2) Provide a brief introduction to your profile. What motivated you to enter your field, and what key principles drive your work?
I come from a background of entrepreneurship and product innovation. I established XFord Eyewear in Jaipur with a straightforward vision: to give every Indian access to high-quality eyewear. What drove me is the disparity I also observed between international eyewear standards and what’s acceptable for the local market in terms of affordability and comfort.
There are three core beliefs of mine: Quality without any kind of excuses, Customer when we build products and Innovation in everything we do. At the junction of these principles is where XFord began as a grassroots family business and grew into a household name nationally.
3) Share some of your notable achievements and any industry recognition or awards you’ve received.
In the past decade, XFord Eyewear has crossed 5,000 retail outlets in India, which is a matter of great pride for us. Our Polarized Sunglasses Collection has received some major praise for bringing combined UV400 protection, anti-glare and ergonomic design at a price you can’t say no to.
We’ve also received accolades from trade and retail industry associations for design innovation and durability, and we are frequently promoted in prominent optical industry publications and trade shows.
4) Highlight a specific contribution or innovation you’ve made in your respective field. How has it impacted or transformed the industry?
One of the most interesting aspects that we did was incorporated performance-grade products, with features like UV-400, scratch resistance and ergonomic fit in unisex special designs for Indian face shapes minus the luxury tags. This made quality eyewear accessible to buyers that is fashionable and functional.
It helped set a new standard for local eyewear manufacturing, and forced more brands to latch on to both aesthetics and function over price alone.
5) Discuss a significant challenge you’ve faced and the innovative solutions or strategies you implemented to overcome it.
One of the biggest challenges was teaching the Indian market about the significance of lens technology, and not only about the frame style. To solve for this, we activated a storytelling PR and in-store education platform that translated tech speak into human language for the consumer.
We demonstrated polarized lenses, shouting the features and benefits like a carnival barker, using visuals, demos and real-world scenarios to explain their function, and the benefits of UV protection. As a consequence, customers became aware of it, and we generated more trusts and brand loyalty.
6) What’s your vision for the future? How do you plan to continue making a difference or influencing positive change in your field?
I want to establish XFord as India’s first performance-luxury eyewear brand with a global presence. I want to continue innovating lens tech, frame design and sustainable materials.
We are also investing in dealer expansion and reaching broader masses digitally to get to more people. We will soon introduce smart eyewear features, and expand our CSR work to the best possible way — offering vision correction to underprivileged children.
7) Offer a piece of advice for individuals aspiring to excel in your field. What valuable lessons have you learned on your journey?
My advice: Begin small but think big. Stay close to your customers, learn from every mistake, and never skimp on quality — even when it’s tempting to save a little money.
In a competitive market, I’ve learned that consistency, trust, and innovation are what make a brand rise above the competition. You build something that fills a real need, and success will come.
