The song “Ve Kurta Laiyan Main Ludhiana” has taken Instagram by storm, becoming a viral hit in India. Originally titled “Blockbuster,” the song was created by Pakistani artists and released in May this year.
Umair Butt, involved in composing, writing, and singing the song, shared, “We were hopeful it would resonate with our audience. It was a month after the release, coinciding with Eid, that I realized the song was gaining traction.”
“Blockbuster” features vocals from Faris Shafi, Umair Butt, and the all-female Gharwi Group, including Abida, Rooha Rawal, Sajida Bibi, and internet sensation Saba Hassan. Abida expressed her gratitude, saying, “Yeh logon ki meherbaani hai, humne bauhaut mushkil se yeh gaaya,” while Rooha added, “Blockbuster poori duniya mein chha gaya hai!”
Xulfi, who handled music arrangements and mixing, was amazed by the song’s popularity. “I saw people of all ages vibing to it on Instagram,” he said. Faris Shafi emphasized the cultural significance of the song, calling it a tribute to shared heritage and culture.
The music video, shot in one take with 400 extras and 200 crew members, was directed by Zeeshan Parwez. “From the moment I heard Blockbuster’s demo, I knew I wanted the story told without cuts, emphasizing community celebration in real-time,” Parwez explained. The shoot took 10 takes and a full day to complete.
Twelve-year-old Saba Hassan, initially not part of the video, was featured after impressing the creators with her impromptu singing. “Hamara gaana aapko achha laga, Inshallah hamare deshon ki dooriyaan bhi khatam ho jaayengi,” she said.
The Norwegian dance group, with a fan following in India, shared their experience choreographing the one-take video. “We wanted to create something raw and authentic, capturing the dancers’ energy and passion in a single, unbroken flow,” they revealed.
“Blockbuster” has captured hearts across borders, showcasing music’s power to unite people.
