My name is Dillip Kumar Sahu, and I hail from Balakati, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Since my childhood, I have been deeply inspired by the beauty of nature and the cultural richness around me. Growing up amidst the serene landscapes of Odisha, I found solace and inspiration in the natural world—especially the sun, moon, animals, and birds. My fascination with Lord Sri Jagannath further fueled my passion for art and photography. Since 2002, I have been collecting photos of Lord Sri Jagannath from various Odia newspapers, driven by a profound desire to preserve and promote our cultural heritage.

Q. What were some of the challenges you faced in your journey as an artist and photo collector, and how did you overcome them?

One of the major challenges I faced was managing my time effectively. Balancing my artistic pursuits with everyday responsibilities required meticulous planning and dedication. However, my unwavering passion and commitment to my work helped me overcome these challenges. I believe in the power of daily dedication and persistence, which have been instrumental in my journey.

Q. How do you see the key market trends shaping the art and photography industry in the coming years?

I believe there will be a growing emphasis on digital platforms and online exhibitions, making art and photography more accessible to a global audience. Additionally, the integration of technology in art creation and preservation will open new avenues for artistic expression and cultural documentation.

Q. Can you share a memorable story of how your collection or artwork has significantly impacted someone or a community?

One of the most memorable moments for me was when my painting “Three Elephants” received the Kalabhushan Award from the Ajanta Alora International Art Gallery. This recognition not only validated my artistic vision but also inspired others to appreciate the beauty and significance of traditional art forms. Similarly, my collection of Lord Sri Jagannath’s photos has sparked interest and reverence among devotees and scholars alike, contributing to the cultural legacy of Odisha.

Q. What are your personal and professional goals for the future?

Personally, I aim to continue expanding my collection of Lord Sri Jagannath’s photos and contributing to the preservation of our cultural heritage. Professionally, I aspire to collaborate with museums and cultural institutions to exhibit my collection internationally, fostering greater awareness and appreciation for Odisha’s rich artistic traditions.
